    Landscape Construction Foreman Job Description

    Do you get fired-up to take a landscape design plan and bring it to life? It’s a powerful thing to know how to renovate an outdoor space from start to finish and make it truly amazing. That is what the BLD Landscape Foremen do, and we are looking to expand the team. 

    We would love to talk to you if you have 3+ years’ experience in landscape installation and construction management with strong leadership skills and a solid work ethic. 

    A BLD Landscape Foreman oversees the construction and installation of high-quality outdoor spaces and landscapes, transforming the ordinary into extraordinary. They need to be able to understand the design plans, work collaboratively with the Operations Manager, Project Manager, and Designer to devise a game plan for construction and execute on the vision. 

    Primary responsibilities for a BLD Landscape Foreman include managing and training crew members, supervising the use of equipment, ensuring safety guidelines and protocols are followed, and completing projects in a timely/efficient manner at BLD quality standards.

    This full-time position directly supervises 2-4 crew members and interacts with the BLD Management Team, vendors, subcontractors, and clients. It is a year-round job as we work on installation projects throughout the entire year (weather permitting during the winter) in addition to snow removal services.

    Job Responsibilities

    • We believe in a team approach and working collaboratively! The BLD Landscape Foreman will work with the Operations Manager, Project Manager, and Designer to understand the objectives and pieces of each assigned project and develop a roadmap for project completion.

    • A BLD Landscape Foreman must clearly and effectively communicate with the entire team (management and crew), customers, and vendors, to ensure the project is completed seamlessly. Daily updates will be given to the Operations Manager prior to leaving a job site to keep everyone in the loop.

    • Organized: The BLD Landscape Foreman is responsible for devising a plan for their crew each day and leading them efficiently to meet daily project goals together as a team.

    • Problem Solver: Issues are going to come up, but how you deal with them matters. The BLD Landscape Foreman needs to be a problem solver, take ownership of a solution, and not point fingers.

    • Lead by Example: Provide training and leadership to all crew members, ensuring each is competent in their required skill set and accomplishing the work that needs to be done to finish the project on time and to BLD quality standards.

    • Strong Work Ethic: The BLD Landscape Foreman, along with each crew member, is responsible for producing 40+ hours each per week on schedule.

    • Attention to Detail: The BLD Landscape Foreman is responsible for clocking in/out all crew members through LMN Time App, as well as assigning your crew’s tasks accurately.

    • Equipment and Materials Management: The BLD Landscape Foreman is responsible for ensuring that all necessary equipment and materials are available and in good working condition. They maintain an inventory of tools and equipment, and order or rent additional equipment and materials as needed.

    • Safety and Compliance: The BLD Landscape Foreman ensures that all work is completed safely and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards. They identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries.

    • Craftsmen level knowledge of stonework, irrigation, paver, fence, and pergola installation.

    Experience and Skills Needed Prior to Start

    • At least 3-years experience in landscape construction.

    • At least 2-years foreman/crew leader experience is required.

    • MUST HAVE experience in stonework, irrigation, paver, fence, and pergola installation.

    • Is a leader and must be able to work collaboratively with the entire team and crew.

    • Can train crew members the correct ways to accomplish each task.

    • Can understand design plans, interpret, and plan a project based on the plan.

    • Know how to measure and plan material amounts needed.

    • Shows initiative and develops plans for each upcoming week for crew.

    • Has good communication skills.

    • Ability to push, pull and lift 50-80 lbs.

    • Experienced smartphone user

    • English speaking required, bi-lingual a plus.

    License/Certification

    • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record (required).

    Pay and Compensation:

    • Pay and Compensation: $28-$32 Per Hour

    • Bonus opportunities per project, plus end of year bonuses, in addition to referral bonuses. Signing bonus after first full 30 days of work.

    Landscape Construction Crew Level 2 Job Description

    Daily tasks could include demolition, grading, planting, trenching, laying sod, stonework etc. You will also be responsible for maintaining and cleaning the tools and equipment you are using.

    You need to be able to get to the job site on time each day and produce at least 40 hours of work each week during the spring, summer, and fall. Snow removal work in the winter is also available.

    Independent Landscape Designer and Estimator Job Description

As one of BLD’s Independent Landscape Designer and Estimators, you will be a main point of contact for our landscape design and installation customers and represent BLD standards during every step. You will guide BLD customers through the entire creative process and construction journey.

    The relationship with the customer will start with an initial consultation where you will mostly be listening to their goals for the project to fully understand what all needs to go into your design work. Next step, your innovative design will shine through in an energetic presentation of the design plan and estimate. Additional relationship building will come in handy after the presentation to help seal the deal and close more sales. Followed by solid organizational skills to ensure the project goes smoothly, while consistently providing excellent communication to the customer throughout the project ensuring their experience is outstanding.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Initial Consultations: Every initial consultation you have with a customer is an opportunity to showcase your professionalism, creative, and communication skills by gaining a full understanding of their goals, restraints, preferences and establishing trust so can have an open dialog with the with them that gets them excited to move forward with a design plan.   

    • Design: Listen to what the customer is truly trying to accomplish, translate those goals into a design plan that surpasses their expectations, stays within their budget, and gives customers the ability to visualize the amazing space you designed for them to enjoy.

    • Estimates: As a part of each design plan, our landscape design team is also responsible for putting together the estimate for each project they bid.

    • Presentations of Designs and Estimates: Once the first draft of the design plan and estimate are complete, you will schedule a second appointment with the customer to present your design plan, 3D renderings, and the estimate, and receive feedback and revision notes. After the presentation, use the information discussed to finalize the plan and estimate for the customer. Communication, confidence, and relationship skills are essential for this phase of the design process.

    • Sales: BLD Independent Landscape Designers are paid commission on everything they sell from their design plans and on project totals.

    • Organization: Being organized with customer support, project design and estimates, materials and quantities, and sub-contractors needed is a pinnacle part of this role.

    • Project Management: Although we do have a management staff onsite of each project every day, the BLD Independent Landscape Designer role is involved in project management and a continuation of customer communication and support throughout the construction project.

    • Communication: Strong and timely communication is essential to providing a good customer experience and working collaboratively with the team.

    Experience and Skills Needed Prior to Start

    • 3+ years experience working in a landscape design role, extensive residential landscape design/build experience preferred.

    • Bachelor’s degree in either landscape design, landscape architecture, and/or horticulture.

    • Enthusiasm and confidence for your design work to facilitate project sales.

    • Extensive plant knowledge and troubleshooting skills.

    • 1 year landscape installation project management experience required.

    • Excellent communication, customer service, and relationship building skills.

    • Technical skills for using landscape design programs such as RealTime Landscape Design, LMN CRM and Estimating Software, Microsoft, and Google platforms.

    • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to get to customer appointments without issue.

    • Must live in or near Boulder County Colorado to be able to visit clients for initial consultations, presentations, and project management responsibilities.

    Pay and Compensation:

    • This role is a commission only role where you get commission on every design you sell in addition to commissions on all project payments that you sell. On average BLD Independent Landscape Designers earn commissions totaling between $65,000 and $130,000 per year.

    • You will have the freedom to dictate your own schedule and work remote as long as you can visit customer sites as needed.
