Nicole loves creating designs and gardens that showcase the unique style of each client she works with. Whether it’s creating an outdoor space for entertaining, a relaxing meditation garden, incorporating edibles and vegetable gardens, places to play or a small pollinator garden; the possibilities are endless!
Nicole believes in using native or regionally adapted plants with a strong emphasis on plant diversity. She believes creating a functional landscape is the priority but doing it by creating a beautiful design is essential. Her goal is to work with clients to produce thoughtful designs that address their needs and desires along with the needs of the environment and local wildlife.
Nicole received her degree in horticulture with a concentration in landscape design and construction from Kishwaukee College in north central Illinois. She also attended the Institute of Art for Design outside Chicago. She grew up mostly in the midwest but has lived and worked in Colorado for most of her career. Her horticulture expertise has concentrated on areas such as xeriscape design, permaculture based methods, and ecological landscaping. She loves incorporating native plant communities and using sustainable organic horticulture practices. Nicole has over a decade of experience. She is constantly pursuing educational opportunities and evolving just like the gardens she creates.
Her grandmother was a large influence on her love of nature and gardening. She has fond memories of spending much time in her grandmother’s garden eating fresh strawberries and picking rhubarb while playing under the large White Oak trees that were prevalent on her grandparent’s Wisconsin property. She also has a love of architecture and design which was mainly the influence of her father who was a carpenter. He began bringing her to work with him at a very young age. She learned valuable construction methods and was taught a strong work ethic while helping on projects.
When not working, Nicole loves spending time with her partner and three wildly independent children. She enjoys biking, photography, reading, backpacking, hiking, and generally playing outdoors.
